No, we're not done with this yet. But I can still look forward, can't I? A new day? A new "normal"?
If nothing else, this pandemic has pointed out the flaws in our system with glaring alarm. What hasn't been screwed up? What wasn't already fucked up?
Health care has been at the forefront. Why haven't we been doing compulsory testing? We should have been. I'm sure our numbers would have been a whole lot higher than the current 1.4 million people but damn, we would have known where our hot spots were. We could have been planning accordingly. Let's face it, our health care system, even with the ACAPP/ObamaCare has been disasterous. Instead of trying to delete it completely, how about we find something that works better first. I long for the days when the law on the books was that health care is a NOT for profit institution. Three quarters of our population spends far too much for doctor visits, prescription drugs, and too much money is going into marketing and Congress' pockets. That's gotta stop. The butt kissing weasels in Congress needs to focus on the people for a change -- not just the party line.
The Medicaid/Medicare system is badly underfunded and needs more help than Congress is giving them. Too many restrictions. Too many people dying that don't need to be. We need to visit this system and correct the loopholes and the reasons to say no need to be gone.
Same with SNAP/Food Stamps. $16 @ month is an insult to people who are starving. We're the number one country in food production and the number one country in the amount of people going hungry. Why is that? Did Ebenezer Scrooge suddenly become president? I think so, considering that his name is Donald J. Trump.
You know, so much needs to be fixed. How about we just start with those programs. We'll work on the rest as we go.
